Look ma no hands

Well this is a first for me.  I'm providing this update without using my hands but rather using my voice.  I'm not sure I'm quite accustomed to this just yet but I'm using voice recognition to control my computer.  All of the text UC written here was done purely by voice.  I have not done any editing by hand using the keyboard or mouse.

The interesting thing is I can still remember back in the early nineties having traveled to Boston to research a new startup firm which specialized in speech recognition.  The company I work for invested a large amount of money in this new business venture and I spent the next year working with this group of people porting a highly complex set of code to run under windows.  The technology was interesting but at the time did not work very well.  Now here I sit in front of my computer speaking in my regular voice watching the words appear on the screen.

Well is an interesting toy I'm sure we'll get tired of it soon and revert back to the keyboard and mouse.  After all I am an old timer and I still like the way things were done back in my day.  Old dog new trick not today.

Homecoming '07 Part 2

IMG_7853

Here is Spencer and his date getting ready to head out to dinner. We will have to wait until we see him tonight or tomorrow to get the details on the evening. Oh wait this is Spencer we are talking about. I doubt he will be very forthcoming about the details. Let me go get the chair and spotlight ready, this could be a challenge getting him to talk.

Stay tuned!

Homecoming '07

IMG_7801 Its homecoming weekend and the Junior/Senior wars are out of control. I only wish I had my camera to show the mess that has been going on. Trash, street signs, yards ruined....Out of control.

Anyway the game was Friday night and they won. Stay tuned for IMG_7814pictures of Spencer before the dance.

When will it end

Back to the doctor again with the same symptoms as before. Since the doctor I have been seeing said to call him if I had a relapse we attempted to contact his office. He was not in the office but made the effort to see me. Found out I was his only patient of the day as he was attending a funeral that day. Well guess what more blood work. Yep and this time I got stuck (literally) by someone who was not ready to extract orange juice from an orange. My left arm was poked 4 times before he gave up and moved to my right arm. He was instructed to draw blood from two sites (both arms) but only drew from the one. Bad experience. My white blood count was very high this round so antibiotics were prescribed. Nothing like getting old. Maybe next week you will see me out by the curb with the other heavy trash...

The Gallery

I believe the kinks have been worked out of the new photo gallery. I have added new pictures and spent some time organizing the site. You can now find some older pictures and I was thinking about adding a scanned picture section. Everything is time dependant (that is if and when I get time). I am trying to keep my site interactive and looking at adding the ability to have viewers add their comments when viewing pictures.

Go ahead and leave me feedback. Would like to hear you comments.

Enjoy

Crash boom bang

notebook_disk_drive Well it was a quiet passing actually. The hard drive in Kelli's laptop decided it was too tired to continue on. It started with an occasional Windows blue screen crash then finally would no longer boot. Everything she had on the drive is gone. This shows how important it is to have a backup. I am now reworking my home network to be able to backup important files from the computers. OK its somewhere on my to do list if I can find where I put it. I still have not completed getting my web site moved onto the new server. I have the main site running but its more or less just running. I will probably spend the next few months tinkering until its working like I want it. Look for a new photo gallery with new pictures to appear sometime in the next few days to weeks.

The wheels on the bus go round and round

goodrich_gforceWell not quite a bus but someone has a car that requires expensive tires. Well maybe its the driver requiring the expensive tires. Looking at replacing the tires on Spencer's Mustang and it has BF Goodrich g-force tires now. Reading the reviews they get a very high rating for wet and dry traction. While I hate to spend the extra $'s just knowing he is riding on good tread does give some relief. There are a few options we are looking at one of which is the tread life. Get one too hard and you loose on traction but gain life, get one too soft and you will be replacing tires before you know it but traction you will have.

Hip Hip Hooray

Well no I am not talking about the song Hip Hip Hooray from the Australian group Sneaky Sound System. That would be too easy for everyone to figure out. Right?blood_tube

I am talking about having my arm stuck again. Last Friday was my last blood donation for 3-6 months. The Dr. has finally lifted my restrictions (yeah I know still have to take it easy) after getting the last round of results back from the lab.  It looks like things are finally settling down therefore the - hip hip hooray. No celebration, no jumping up and down, no clown making things out of balloons. A nice quiet evening was sufficient.
